What is France known for above all things?
"Tourists?"
Well, yes, but something associated specifically with the French.
"Striking workers?"
Okay, yeah, but again, something a little more upbeat...
Before you answer, let me tell you: Wine country!
Nearly the entire country is a vineyard but there are certain regions which are renowned for their wines. Some are specialized like the Champagne, Burgundy or Cognac regions while others offer numerous varietals. The Loire valley sports 85 different appellations, Alsace produces a wide selection of white wines, Bordeaux is known for its rich variety of red wines and Languedoc produces over 50% of all French wine. Take your pick but choose wisely; France is a big country.
Wine is a very good way to discover France. Since its introduction by the Romans in the 1st century the French have taken the vine under their wings and turned it into a national identity. During war and revolution the food may have run short but the wine never stopped flowing. Come and visit the land where wine was perfected, experience the environment and people who bring it from the soil to your table.
We pride ourselves on providing a unique experience for every one of our guests. After all, it is one of the reasons you choose a private guide over a public tour bus. With a private guide you get something unheard of on a public tour...flexibility and our undivided attention. You can consider us your friends who live in France, friends who just so happen to have the time and inclination to show you around this great country.
It is very true that wine production covers most of the country to some degree. However, only specific regions are known for their exceptional style and quality. Let us know what your tastes are in wine, food and environment and we'll suggest the best areas for you to consider.
Wine tasting in France is a refreshing experience with the quality of the wine and beauty of the regions speaking more to authenticity than to marketing.
At A Guide in France we do not use standardized itineraries; therefore, we often dine casually, on-the-fly. If you have any restaurant preferences, please let us know during the itinerary-building process and we will plan accordingly.
Meals: we usually dine separately from our guests but will join you if asked. Either way, we will always assist you with the menus and ordering.
